What causes your puffy eyes?

Cause

There are several causes for under eye bags, puffiness, or dark circles. Some of these are: heredity, water retention, toxin build up, a change in weather, hormones, allergic reactions, as well as health issues or complications from medications.

Prevention
One of the steps you can do to prevent your under eye puffiness, bags, and dark circles is to have a healthy well balanced diet and stay well hydrated. Drinking plenty of water will help your body flush itself of any toxins as well as reduce the chance of water retention. Limiting your caffeine intake can also help reduce water retention. Sodium is also a big culprit in helping the body retain excess water and to reduce the bags under your eyes you may want to drastically reduce the salt in your diet.

Treatment
Cucumbers are really good at helping to reduce puffiness under your eyes. Lavender is also a nice soothing topical treatment when applied to the eye area in a floral water mixture and reduces swelling to the eye area. Chamomile or other tea bags also work to reduce swelling under the eyes. Choose the treatment best suited to help get rid of your puffy eyes. Once you have completed that treatment you can apply makeup to help hide any remaining puffiness.

I had the opportunity to help out a fellow Make-up artist over the Christmas break.
Ashley Young asked me to take her place while she was out of town and I jumped at the chance to get messy again. We worked together in the summer for Phasefirefilms on the feature film
"The Directors Project" (set to be released Early 2011)
On that she assisted me with application of Goyle and corrective make-up.
I look forward to working with her on other future projects!

Traveling make-up!

The Bride (Dani) and I

So from time to time I will travel for beauty. This November I went to Cancun Mexico for a wedding. My boyfriend and I went as guests along with 28 of the couples close friends and family.
This was my first time to Mexico and was looking forward to the white sand clear water, my last tropical destination was Jamaica in May 2009. I hope to one day visit all the tropical beaches in the Caribbean and surrounding areas. The wedding day was sunny and warm, a gentle breeze kept everyone cool.

When it comes to make-up in heat, less is more. Most brides want to keep their look natural and simple so this was ideal in these conditions. So, packing before the trip is different. It was a first for me to travel outside Canada/USA, so a lighter kit was a must. Vancouver International Airport allows you to carry on liquids 100ml or less. That's fine, if your an average person... for a make-up artist it is a bit challenging. Plus, you want to carry on as much as possible due to the chance of losing your checked luggage.
I packed eye shadows, blush, compact (wet to dry) foundations etc... in my carry on. Everything else went into checked luggage. I asked the bride to pass on a message for all in the party to bring their own foundation and mascara (this lightens your load with liquids and mascara wands), these are items they will probably bring regardless. The look was soft and fresh, with glowing skin. The dresses were sage green and the brides was a light ivory. All these girls had sky-blue/teal greens for eye color (so lucky), I used shimmery peaches for a color pallet and a hint of green for the bride. Neutral cheeks and lips with gloss.

All in all the wedding day was great! I had room service deliver champagne and pineapple juice and a continental breakfast. Something extra to show you care :) It's all about the details! Here are some snap shots of the wedding!
